CEU Description

Morning Session: Ethical Considerations When Working with Clients Who Identify as LGBTQ

The purpose of this training is to explore the ethical considerations of professionals working with LGBTQ population through the lens of The Social Work Code of Ethics and The American Counseling Association. The training will explain some of the prominent struggles that youth who identify as LGBTQ deal with, as well as ways that professionals can ethically work with individuals who identify as LGBTQ.

At the end of this training you will be able to:

1. Identify some of the struggles that individuals who identify as LGBTQ face
2. Prioritize the ethical obligation of the Social Work and Counseling professions toward LGBTQ individuals
3. Outline the ethical decision making process in working with the LGBTQ population
4. Plan strategies to use the ethical decision making process with individuals who identify as LGBTQ

 

Afternoon Session: Ethics Course: Suicide

The purpose of this training is to explore the ethical considerations of professionals working with clients who present with suicidal ideation through the lens of The Social Work Code of Ethics and The American Counseling Association. The training will review current findings from the CDC about suicide in America and how Licensed Professional Counselors and Social Workers can use ethical problem solving skills, as well as local and national resources to assist clients who present with suicidal ideation.

1. Review and analyze the CDC report Vital Signs: Trends in State Suicide Rates — United States, 1999–2016 and Circumstances Contributing to Suicide — 27 States released June 2018
2. Determine which ethical responsibility applies when given a suicidal scenario
3. Outline the ethical decision making process in taking action toward suicidal ideation
4. Model the ethical decision making processes that Licensed Professional Counselors and Social Workers can use with people who present with suicidal ideation while making use of national and local resources that can help individuals struggling with suicidal ideation

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

Tickets for CEU sessions are nontransferable because we will use the information provided to create the certification for the CEUs. However, someone can attend the Open House in your place.
