Episode 1: Pursing Your Passion

Meet Keya.

After foster care, Keya entered college but soon dropped out once it became clear the career she chose wasn’t the right fit for her. With few people to turn to, she felt scared and unsure of what steps to take to support herself; until she found her way to ACH’s The LIFE Project.

With the guidance of The LIFE Project mentors, Keya updated her resume, improved her interview skills, and was encouraged to pursue her passion for baking. Keya then joined Fort Worx, a paid 16-week food service job training program offered tuition free for those struggling to gain the skills and expertise needed to gain employment.

At times Keya did want to quit, but having the support of The LIFE Project mentors and culinary instructors made all the difference. In the end, Keya graduated with her American Culinary Federation certification and is on her way to becoming a chef.

"My biggest motivation is realizing l do have a passion for this."
