Episode 10: Creating Space for Youth Voice

Meet Peaches.

While Peaches experienced a loving home in her younger years, as a teenager her life was filled with housing instability and abuse. Starting at 15, her grandmother would lock her in her room for days at a time, without food. Later, her sister took Peaches into her home, but only temporarily because she was then dropped off at ACH’s Youth Emergency Shelter.

Unable to find any family willing to care for her, Peaches broke down thinking about the uncertainty of her future; but this time she wasn’t alone. ACH’s team of caregivers were present to provide safety, hope, and love while CPS worked to find Peaches a permanent home.

After three months, Peaches was placed into the Transitional Living Program located on ACH’s Wedgwood Residential Campus; where she received counseling, life skills, and the stability needed to graduate High School. Now Peaches is enrolled in college and plans to go into computer engineering.

"Finally being listened to and believed in really gave me hope."
