Episode 8: The Right Support Transforms Care

Meet Arquilla.

For the past 44 years, Arquilla Walker has raised nine children, eight of them from the same family, and none of them related to her by blood. Along the way, Ms. Walker sacrificed a marriage, a career, and an engagement. Now at 61 years old, the pressures of being the sole provider of three children are continuing to be felt.

Today, Arquilla is finally getting the help she urgently needs through ACH’s Kinship Connections; like when she needs new furniture for her baby’s bedroom, help accessing community resources like therapy; or someone to be there for her when her child is struggling with a mental health crisis. For the first time in her life, Arquilla knows with ACH’s Kinship Connections, she has a team that has her back whenever life’s challenges turn up.

"It’s different this time because I had never had anyone say to me, 'We’re here for you.' "
