At age 15, Arthur’s aunt dropped him off at ACH’s Pat O’Neal Youth Emergency Shelter. To him it felt like his family betrayed him. So much so, he refused to return home and chose to enter the foster care system instead. After high school, Arthur had nowhere to go, that is, until he learned about the Supervised Independent Living program at ACH.
Once in The LIFE Project, he dreamed of having his own apartment. Over the next few years, Arthur worked with LIFE mentors to learn the necessary life skills to reach independence, like regulating emotions, knowing when to ask for help, and staying persistent. It was a journey full of obstacles, but gradually Arthur developed the maturity needed to remain committed to his goals.
Now that Arthur has graduated from ACH, he has a new support system, financial stability, and his very own apartment.
"They offer you guidance, counseling, strength, and support. They are literally what you need."
-Arthur
